| ITINERARY: 7 Days / 6 Nights Day 1: ARRIVAL DAY- SUNDAY Depart from your city of origin for an early afternoon check into our Hotel, The Palmer House, one of Chicago's most famous historic Hotels located near the famous Gold Coast area and the Magnificent Mile. Time to rest a bit this afternoon before we take a late afternoon private guided tour of the Palmer House Hotel, filled with highlights and anecdotes about its colourful past. This evening we'll have cocktails and a light supper aboard a chartered yacht which will take you on a 2-hour private cruise along the Chicago River with your expert docent guide on Chicago architecture, who will point out to you many of Chicago's architectural masterpieces and fabulous skyline seen from the River. This tour continues to various neighborhoods, including Lincoln Park, Old Town and the "Gold Coast" areas. Lunch on your own in Old Town before we take head over to the University of Chicago area, where docents from the Frank Lloyd Wright Preservation Trust take you on a guided tour of the Frederick C. Also included will be a guided tour of the Robie House Historic Neighbors District near the University of Chicago. We'll then be picked up by our "costumed gangster guides" who will take you on "The Untouchables Tour" in Chicago's South Side for an authentic Italian Dinner at Connie's Restaurant, (a Chicago tradition for over 45 years) and to see hot spots, hit spots and hideouts made famous during the Prohibition Era by such colourful characters as Al Capone, John Dillinger, "Bugs" Moran, Dion O'Bannion and Elliott Ness. You'll sample along the way some authentic flavors from several ethnic eateries and food shops "off-the-beaten-path", as well as have an extraordinary glimpse into Chicago's various cultures. Afterwards, you'll return to our Hotel and have the evening free on your own -- perhaps to have dinner in one of Chicago's traditional pubs or famous steakhouses. (B,L) Day 5: CHICAGO SIGHTS AND BROADWAY THEATRE - THURSDAY After breakfast this morning, you'll have free time until late afternoon for you to explore Chicago sights on your own. You can see some of Chicago's famous Museums such as the Museum of Science and Industry, the Field Museum, or perhaps the Shedd Aquarium. You can stroll through Millenium Park or shop in the "Boutiques on Oak Street" and along the Magnificent Mile, or you might visit some of Chicago's famous tourist attractions such as Chicago Mercantile Exchange, Navy Pier, Sears Tower, Adler Planetarium, John Hancock Center, Lincoln Park Zoo or the Chicago Botanic Garden. We'll meet back at the Hotel for an early Dinner, followed by attending a Broadway show. (B,D) Day 6: ROUTE 66 - FRIDAY After breakfast, we'll head out of Chicago down the original Route 66 to spend the day visiting iconic sites, roadside museums and diners which have dotted this highway for decades, turning Route 66 into a legend in the 20th Century, as everyone began their "love affair with the automobile". We'll have a "Farewell Dinner" before we return to the Hotel to relax and pack for our return home tomorrow. (B,D) Day 7: DEPARTURE DAY - SATURDAY After Breakfast this morning, we'll check out of the Hotel, and then head over to Garfield Park Conservatory, built in 1907 by landscape architect Jens Jensen, and considered to be the world's largest under one roof. Home to more than 5,000 species and varieties of the world's flora, it is the setting for five major annual flower shows. After visiting the Conservatory, we'll then grab a quick Lunch before departing for the Chicago Airport for our return flights home. (B) |
