SANTA FE's 400th HOLIDAY SEASON
CELEBRATING SANTA FE's 400th ANNIVERSARY©
December 1-7, 2010
Established as the capital of New Mexico by the Spanish Governor
in 1610 while still part of the empire of New Spain, Santa Fe quickly
became the hub of commerce between the region and Mexico.
Spanish military and officials as well as Franciscan missionaries
settled in the region, often in conflict with the Pueblo Indians whose
population at the time was close to 100,000 people who spoke nine
languages and who lived in an estimated 70 pueblos, many of which
exist today, providing a glimpse into their culture and way of life.
NOTE: This Holiday Season Tour coincides with the conclusion of
Santa Fe's celebration of its 400th birthday. Season concerts,
performances and other special events will mark the occasion --
making the 2010 Holiday Season in Santa Fe a once-in-a-lifetime
happening.

ITINERARY HIGHLIGHTS (*)
7 Days / 6 Nights
Day 1: DEPARTURE DAY- WEDNESDAY
Travel to Santa Fe, New Mexico, at the foothills of the Rocky Mountains. Upon arrival, you’ll check into La Fonda Hotel, the “grande dame” of Santa Fe hotels in the
heart of Old Santa Fe. Free time to rest before everyone gathers for a delectable Welcome Dinner prepared especially for you by the Executive Chef at
La Fonda. (D)
Day 2: SANTA FE REGIONAL CUISINE TOURING DAY - THURSDAY
Have a "light" breakfast in the hotel this morning, then join our group for "A Tour and A Taste of Santa Fe". This guided, leisurely walking tour will acquaint you with
historic downtown Santa Fe, and you’ll enjoy lunch at an area restaurant along the way. This afternoon we'll have a Southwestern Cooking Class at the Santa Fe
School of Cooking where you will learn about the art of preparing this special regional cuisine. Dinner on your own this evening at one of Santa Fe's many fine
downtown restaurants -- if you are still hungry after experiencing this "regional cuisine" day. This evening we'll attend a Flamenco performance by an international
dance company.. (B,L)
Day 3: "HIGH ROAD TO TAOS" DAY- FRIDAY
After breakfast at the Hotel, we'll take this scenic route from Chimayo to Vadito to galleries and studios of artisans along the High Road between Santa Fe
and Taos. With nearly 60 shops, you'll see various types of woodcarvings, paintings, jewelry, wind chimes and other artworks. Northern New Mexico's vibrant Spring
colors are on display, and you can feast on traditional Southwestern foods as you peruse the shops along the way. Early Dinner in Taos before returning to
Santa Fe. (B,D)
Day 4: SANTA FE HERITAGE AND CULTURAL TOURING DAY- SATURDAY
After Breakfast at the Hotel this morning, you'll have your choice of several special interest, "behind-the-scenes" guided tours in Santa Fe. Lunch is included
during our touring. Free time this evening to have Dinner on your own in Santa Fe and to spend enjoying one of Santa Fe's cultural arts performances. (B, L)
Day 5: TURQUOISE TRAIL DAY- SUNDAY
After breakfast at the Hotel, we'll take a leisurely drive for sightseeing, touring, and shopping along the Turquoise Trail National Scenic Byway. Scenic
views, diverse cultures, extensive history, and unique towns and shops will enchant you on our journey today. Prehistoric peoples made their homes here. Spanish
missionaries explored the area and battles were fought over this land. Outlaws and Confederate soldiers camped in the area. Kit Carson marched Navajo people along
the Trail during their "Long Walk" to incarceration at Fort Sumner. Early Dinner at the Mine Shaft Tavern in Madrid, NM -- one of the last great "roadhouses"
-- before returning to Santa Fe. Free time this evening after our return to spend enjoying one of Santa Fe's cultural arts performances. (B,D)
Day 6: SANTA FE ART GALLERIES AND MUSEUMS DAY- MONDAY
This morning after breakfast at the Hotel, you’ll visit the unique art galleries on Canyon Road on a special walking tour of this older, scenic neighborhood,
guided by a local historian. Lunch on your own before this afternoon's tour of some of the famous museums of Santa Fe. Santa Fe has a museum for just
about everybody -- from the historic Palace of the Governors, to the Georgia O'Keefe Museum, to the museums of "Museum Hill" -- the International Folk Art Museum,
the Museum of Spanish Colonial Art, the Wheelwright Museum of the American Indian, and the Museum of Indian Arts and Culture. Farewell Dinner in Santa Fe this
evening. The rest of the evening is free to enjoy a Holiday Season cultural arts performance, stroll through Downtown Santa Fe enjoying the lights and decorations, or
to relax. (B,D)
Day 7: RETURN HOME - TUESDAY
