SOLVANG AND SANTA YNEZ VALLEY WINERIES© (Tour also includes Santa Barbara)
August 6-11, 2012
|
Solvang, often referred to as "Little Denmark, Danish capital of America", was
founded in 1911. It began as a dream of three Danish immigrants who were educators
and pastors. They planned to raise money to buy a large tract of land on the West Coast
and subdivide it into plots for farms, homes, and a town. Profits from the sale of land
would be used for building a folk school.
In January, 1911 the Danish-American Colony corporation bought almost 10,000 acres of
prime land in the Santa Ynez Valley, California. The new colony was named “Solvang”
(sunny field) and glowing advertisements were placed in Danish-language newspapers.
Early buyers, almost all Danish, came from California, the Midwest, and Denmark.
Solvang has recently been named a "Preserve America Community" by the Advisory
Council on Historic Preservation in Washington, D.C.
Nestled in the heart of Santa Barbara County’s legendary vineyards, is the breathtaking
Santa Ynez Valley Wine Country. You'll bask in the beauty of the Valley while touring
enchanting wineries and taking in magnificent countryside. It's the perfect destination for
an extended relaxing trip, and also boasts of wonderful restaurants and unique shopping
opportunities.
While in the Valley, you'll also discover the charm of the village of Los Olivos and rustic
Santa Ynez in addition to the quaint Danish village of Solvang and sophisticated Santa
Barbara. You'll enjoy sampling award-winning varietals, including (but not limited to!)
Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Viognier, Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir, Syrah and
Merlot.
With a moderate climate, beautiful scenery and peaceful country living, it’s no wonder the
Santa Ynez Valley has become home to so many exceptional wineries.
If a minimum of 20 persons book this Heritage Tour on either of the published tour dates, a portion of Snobby Tours®, Inc.'s net proceeds for that Tour will be donated to the ADVISORY COUNCIL ON HISTORIC PRESERVATION and to the CALIFORNIA SUSTAINABLE WINEGROWING ALLIANCE, which develops partnerships for funding education and outreach to advance the understanding and adoption of sustainable practices.
